Pastor Shayne Wheeler

The first thing to know about Shayne is that he scored a major coup by marrying Carrie in 1992. They met in college at Western Kentucky University, where Shayne came to know Christ through Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Carrie is a gifted musician and serves as the Worship Director and Women’s Ministry Director at All Souls Fellowship in Decatur, GA. They have three kids, all of whom live in Atlanta: Calvin, (24), who is married to Heather, Emma (22), and Audrey (20). As they grew up, none of their kids realized it was weird for their Dad to be a Pastor. Shayne and Carrie still have two dogs at home: Gus is an English Golden Retriever, and Jax is a Labradoodle.

Shayne grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. A graduate of Western Kentucky University, he was led to the Lord through the ministry of The Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Called to vocational ministry while in college, Shayne received his Master of Divinity from Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri.

Shayne has served as a Youth Pastor for churches in Missouri, Virginia, and Atlanta. In 2001, he came to Intown Community Church in Atlanta to plant a new church. He and Carrie started All Souls Fellowship in Decatur in 2003. Under his leadership, All Souls led and assisted in planting nine churches in Colorado, Tennessee, and throughout Atlanta. Shayne continues to mentor and coach church planters.

In June 2019, Shayne became a Director of Church Planting for the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, creating a structure for recruiting, assessing, placing, resourcing, and coaching church planters.

Shayne loves to read and write. He is the author of The Briarpatch Gospel: fearlessly following Jesus into the thorny places. He enjoys exercise, riding his motorcycle, 80’s music, hanging out with friends, and is a rabid Atlanta Falcons fan. He also drinks way too much coffee and cries at weddings, which is a bit of an occupational hazard.

The Briarpatch Gospel

Hasn’t Jesus called us into the thorns and thistles with Him to love what we find there? What if we had the courage to follow him into the briarpatch and discover life as we were always meant to live it? In The Briarpatch Gospel, dynamic young pastor Shayne Wheeler presents a radical message of grace, one that won’t allow you to remain comfortable merely sitting in a church pew. He shares his own heartbreaking personal journey through the briarpatch, and his church’s remarkable experience of creating a community in which people walk through life’s issues—even the darkest, most painful problems and questions—together. Unafraid. Like Jesus did.

Thank you PNC!

The Pastor Nominating Committee served us so well in nominating Shayne Wheeler to be our Senior Pastor.  The video to the right is the presentation they made to the Church prior to the vote.
