Rev. Dr. Mark Brewer

Interim Senior Pastor, North Avenue Presbyterian Church

Rev. Dr. Mark A. Brewer is a third generation Presbyterian clergy. Mark received his Bachelor of Arts in the Social Sciences from Colorado State University, where he was awarded the Kodak Scholarship for the highest GPA in his major. It was there he started the CSU Fellowship that grew to six hundred students a week. Mark received his Master of Divinity as well as Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. Dr. Brewer did research for seven months post graduate work at St. Mary’s Divinity school in St. Andrews, Scotland.

He has authored two books. One addressed city changing “A Walk into the City” as well as a book on ethics ‘Spiritual Intelligence.’

Over the last thirty-eight years Mark has pastored five large Presbyterian churches in Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles and Atlanta. (Two of them he was the founding organizing minister.) All of them grew to several thousand active members.

Dr. Brewer has had a heart for the ‘ministry of reconciliation.’ He was the only white member of the Black Ministerial Alliance in Denver where he was awarded the William Wilberforce award for city wide relationship building. Mark initiated Denver LINK which involved over seventy-five churches across denominational and racial lines.

Dr. Brewer was recognized by the mayor of Los Angeles, as well as the LA Jewish council, as the founder of “Imagine LA” which still connects houses of faith with families seeking to break the cycle of homelessness. While being the Head of Staff at Bel Air Presbyterian church in Los Angeles Mark helped create a fruitful ministry to the many church members working within the entertainment industry, as well as hosting an annual Easter celebration at the Hollywood Bowl.

Mark has faithfully been a member of the denomination including being the Moderator of the Pacific Presbytery, a delegate to the General Assembly, as well as chairing numerous committees and councils within different Presbyteries.

Mark has been blessed with his wife Carolyn of forty years marriage, as well as three married adult children and six grandchildren.
