Membership

North Avenue Presbyterian Church is home to more than 850 members as well as to many regular visitors. We encourage those who are ready to play an active role in the life of North Avenue to become a part of the membership of the church. Becoming a member makes you a part of something larger than yourself. Says Dr. Samuel Mwaniki, theologian in residence at NAPC,  “In Africa we have a saying, ‘ I am because we are.’”  When you join North Avenue, you are part of a community that is vibrant, multicultural, socially active, focused on grace and love in this city and beyond!

The first step in becoming a member is participating in the New Member process. This begins by getting a “First Look” at North Avenue. This Sunday morning class, held several times during the year, gives a brief overview of North Avenue’s guiding vision, mission, core values, and ministries.

Membership Exploration classes are held four times a year.  On the Thursday of our new member classes we invite those interested in membership to dine together at a member’s home to get to know some leaders of the church and meet other potential new members. The following Sunday is the New Member Exploration Class. The class serves as an opportunity to learn about North Avenue’s core values, as well as to meet some of our pastors and church leaders, and to discuss questions of faith.   Through the class, inquirers are also given information about  North Avenue’s ministries. At the end of each class, those who feel led to do so will be extended the invitation to officially join the church. Childcare is provided during the class, but you must register! You can register by e-mailing Kay Carlson at kay@napc.org or Janie Hicks at Janie@napc.org.
