Ministries

North Avenue seeks to minister to you! Please use the quick links to the left to see how we are ministering to all God's children!

Children

Children’s Ministry at North Avenue is intentional. We are about the business of educational and recreational programs that foster the Christian faith in our young people. The earliest recollection of church should be of a place where children were welcomed, a place they belonged.

Most children in our church family get to know the nursery and its staff only a few weeks after birth. Childcare is tended by loving professionals and supplemented by volunteers. The workers keep in touch with parents via a beeper system to ensure that parents know if their little one is in distress.

Preschoolers and Elementary-aged children are encouraged to participate in Sunday School (Pre-school or Elementary), Choirs, Vacation Bible School, Summer Camp, Advent and Lenten Festivals, and fellowship activities throughout the year. The emphasis is always on nurturing the child in his or her relationship with God and with the church family as a whole.

For more information about our children's ministry, contact Marti Jackson.

Sundays
Sundays are a whirlwind of adventure for kids at North Avenue. Children are invited to participate in all or any of the activities offered between 8:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. By 8:30 a.m. there is licensed childcare available for the youngest of our church family. At 9:15 a.m., children ages two through fifth-grade are invited to rehearse with one of our children's choirs. Sunday School for all ages begins at 9:45 a.m.

Hospitality to children is important at North Avenue. Families also have the option of sitting together throughout the worship services. Children are always welcome.

Youth

North Avenue is a church that is committed to investing in the lives of the youth of the church and of Atlanta. The youth ministry is committed to students meeting and growing in their relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The leaders of the ministry are putting together a relevant and experiential ministry that with challenge each of our students. We have a philosophy of incorporating spiritual growth, experience and enjoyment. If you have any questions or just want to talk please contact Jessica Dart at (404) 875-0431, ext. 205.

College

NAPC’s college ministry takes the gospel of Jesus Christ to college-age individuals in metro Atlanta.  Primarily focused on students at Georgia Tech, Georgia State, Agnes Scott, Emory, Spellman and Morehouse, the college ministry calls, empowers, and supports students in lifelong commitment to the mission of God in the world.  Through Sunday and mid-week worship, small groups, fellowship events, and mission opportunities, college students engage the real world with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

International

North Avenue is proud to have been a pioneer outreach to internationals in the city. Foreseeing Atlanta as an international city, we were excited when this dream became a reality when the world came for the Olympics. We reach out to internationals beginning with individual and group activities directed toward international students in Atlanta colleges and seminary. This ministry's focus has expanded to encompass internationals that have made Atlanta their permanent home, to let them know there is a place where they can find help or assistance and fellowship. Since 1967, over 130 different nations have come into the life of North Avenue.

Activities include promoting ethnic churches, Christian fellowship among refugees, international Sunday School class, and fellowship with visiting scholars. Internationals are active in all areas of NAPC's life and are fully integrated into its leadership. This creates a lasting friendship across nations as well as helping to create partnerships with other countries.

What is WIF?
  • a ministry to international students at Georgia Institute of Technology.
  • a partnership outreach with the Westminster Christian Fellowship student ministry.
  • a ministry of hospitality and friendship to the 1000 scholars, academics, and students from around the world who are part of the Georgia Tech community, as well as the English Language Institute, which is on campus.
  • a bridge building ministry that seeks to involve the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta churches in international student ministry.
  • a pioneering ministry model for doing foreign mission without leaving the United States.
  • a culturally sensitive ministry that provides caring encouragement and practical help to internationals far from family and support.

WIF Activities

Each week internationals enjoy the free food at the WIF’s pizza night and then head downstairs for a Bible discussion. A team from North Avenue Presbyterian Church helps the students understand the Biblical terms and vocabulary and then encourage them to discover the truths of the scripture for themselves.

English classes held at WCF and at North Avenue Presbyterian Church meet a practical need for international students as well as provide a context for friendship.

Weekends are a vital time for friendship building as WIF takes students sightseeing or to cultural events. During holiday, especially Christmas and Easter, a variety of activities are offered. The WIF crew joins in with the American students for special service projects and events.

International Sunday School Class

Class Purpose: The International Class is composed of both native-born Americans and persons born abroad. Members tend to be interactive with the teachers. Since the class serves as a "surrogate family" for some internationals, planned activities occur throughout the year to encourage interaction among the members. We use different teachers and the format varies from lecture to discussion.

Class Composition: The class has both Christians and non-Christians representing all age ranges beyond high school.

Class Location: Room 402, just across from the Dining Room on the fourth floor

Activities for Women
From the first chapters of Genesis to the final verses of Revelation, the Bible is filled with images of woman. Always she is extended the invitation to come and be part of the story of faith.

The history of North Avenue is not much different. Always there have been women active in our story of faith. Today, we strengthen and encourage women of all ages through a variety of activities and ministri

Mothers of Young Children
Mothers of Young Children (MOYC) is a monthly gathering of women with children of preschool age or younger. The purpose of this group is to build fellowship and support among women in this most important stage of life...that of motherhood. The meeting also serves to give moms a break at least once a month with a program solely devoted to them.

Each meeting takes place in the home of a North Avenue member and is organized with one of three focuses: social, spiritual or topical. Past meetings have included a talk on safety by an Atlanta police officer, a game night and a book review moderated by the book's author. We serve dinner at each meeting at a nominal cost per person...another way mom gets off the hook for the night!

MOYC meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

Presbyterian Women
Presbyterian Women are a strong arm of the church with something of interest for women of all ages. Presbyterian Women are divided into circles, each with two co-chairs and a Bible study leader. The circles meet at the church on the second Tuesday morning of each month from September through May for fellowship, project planning, and Bible study. Two meetings a year are held in homes. Each circle has homebound members to keep in touch with and missionaries to encourage. In addition, service projects give women a chance to give back to the church and the world: Presbyterian Women send Valentine's Day homemade goodies to college students who are away from home, create care packages for the people who worship at The Cup each Sunday, and participate in a variety of other mission projects throughout the year. There are also opportunities for involvement in global and community missions and Church Women United.

For more information on Presbyterian Women, contact Susan Bennett at (404) 875-0431, ext. 202.
